Ambulatory blood pressure (MAP):

The ambulatory measurement of blood pressure (ABPM) allows health professionals to obtain a comprehensive picture of the profiles of blood pressure during the patient's daily activity.

Provides a valuable estimation of both mean arterial pressure as the variability of blood pressure, recording several measurements of blood pressure during the day and night.

ABPM can demonstrate the effectiveness of anti-hypertensive medication may be used to adjust patient medication levels.

The method can reveal several patterns of blood pressure and white coat hypertension, hypotension, dippers and non-dippers.

Measurements taken outside the medical establishment can help the doctor detect white coat hypertension, for example. In addition, ABPM can identify patients whose blood pressure is not reduced during the night, and may also be a valuable tool to monitor signs of "stress increases morning" where patients experience high blood pressure early in the morning.
